Erin T. OConnell

Erin OConnell is a Certified Nurse Life Care Planner, board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner, and Certified Rehabilitation Registered Nurse with more than twenty years of clinical and medical-legal experience.

She is the founder and President of OConnell and Associates, LLC and serves as a Senior Life Care Planner with InVision Life Care Planning, developing life care plans, future medical cost projections, and Medicare Set-Asides in catastrophic injury and complex medical litigation nationwide. Her clinical foundation spans cardiothoracic critical care, post-anesthesia and surgical recovery, and rehabilitation nursing, including five years as a Clinical Nurse Leader within the Veterans Affairs health system.

As a Certified Professional Coder and Certified Professional Biller, she also conducts past medical bill review and usual, customary, and reasonable (UCR) analysis, applying CPT/HCPCS coding standards, National Correct Coding Initiative edits, and CMS benchmarks to identify billing discrepancies and unsupported charges — the same methodology she brings to the review and critique of opposing life care plans and cost projections.

Erin holds a Master of Science in Nursing, a Master of Business Administration, and certifications in nurse life care planning, case management, Medicare Set-Aside consulting, and brain injury (CBIS).

She is a Past President of the American Association of Nurse Life Care Planners, co-chairs its Research and Scope and Standards committees, and chairs its Mentorship Program. She contributed to the International Association of Rehabilitation Professionals Costing Framework Development Project and served as a subject matter expert for the Universal Life Care Planning Certification Board’s role delineation study.

She is a published author in the Journal of Life Care Planning and A Core Curriculum for Nurse Life Care Planning, a frequent national presenter, and has been retained and deposed by both plaintiff and defense counsel.
